New Book Announcement: I Illustrated “Boys Can Do Anything Girls Can Do” — and It’s Finally Here!

Cover of Boys Can Do Anything Girls Can Do: a father sewing with his son and daughter

Boys Can Do Anything Girls Can Do, written by S. M. Chui, is out in paperback on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and it’s one of the books closest to my heart.

What it’s about

A little boy bakes, sews, feeds the baby, plays baseball, sings and gives the best hugs. The idea is simple and important: there are no “boy jobs” and “girl jobs”, only kindness, curiosity and confidence.

Behind the book

Susan, who writes as S. M. Chui, and I worked on it for almost two years. She cared about every little detail, right down to how the boy safely takes waffles out of the toaster, and life got in the way for both of us more than once. Seeing it finally in print means a great deal.

Why it matters to me

An illustrator decides how a story feels before a child reads a word. On every page I wanted to say that it’s fine for a boy to be gentle: to look after his baby sister, mend a doll, cook or cry.

Who it’s for

  • Parents raising kind, open-minded children
  • Teachers building inclusive classroom libraries
  • Anyone looking for a meaningful gift for a baby shower, birthday or the first day of school
